But most of all, this list is dedicated to my darling sister-in-law Fran, who shares my intense love of books and often subsidizes my Barnes and Noble habit, and to my mom, who instilled in me a love of the power of words and the magic of language, as well as an intense curiosity about the world around me.

You might want to try bookcrossing.com, especially the forums section. I get tons of free books from them. I haven't bought a book since I joined, a year ago. Much cheaper than B& N!
Barbara, wow, thanks for the mention sweetie! I am ever impressed with your list -- not only reading them, but recording them all. I was so excited about my book list, then I dropped off. Not in the reading, but in the writing down titles. I don't know now if I'll recall them all. I am not good at following through with lists. It always seems like a good idea, and it IS. I loved reading yours. It's a satisfying feeling to look back and see what you've accomplished in this regard, isn't it? Think of all the words you took into your mind and heart during 2009 alone! Amazing. And God wants that of us. He has prepared us to soak up all that knowledge like little sponges. Way to go, and happy reading in 2010! Blessings...Roxane
P.S. It is so fun to see your blog readership growing!
Oh my goodness! I say it with great sadness - i only read 2 books last year (not counting my school books) Good for you!
Barbara,
This is a super post. With your permission, I'm going to print it and dive into the titles you suggested that I have not read. Thanks for sharing!
Marie
Marie, of course you can! and if you're looking for a good one to start with, I recommend "My Life with the Saints" by James Martin, SJ. I think it's become my all-time favorite book!
